But first, you need to know a little bit of background about my game.

I started working on this game three years ago with the goal of making something that was both strategically fun AND something that would convey the message I wanted to convey. Which was to hopefully inspire people out there to quit their mindless day jobs and to pursue their dreams.

Then, somewhere during the development process, my game’s theme of a “cut-throat corporation” emerged. It was the perfect theme for my game and was tightly interwoven into the gameplay mechanics. If you’re curious about how that works, you can sign up to receive a free print-and-play copy of the game or check out the rulebook.

So now that you know the background of the cut-throat theme, let’s take a look at the packaging of my game.

If you look at the picture below, you can see that there are two sheets of crumpled paper on both sides of the game box.

This is so that the game box doesn’t move around inside the shipping box and get damaged during transit.

But there is also some text written on the papers. Take a look at what it says.

What about the actual game box?

Well if you take a look at the unboxing video below, I’ve also made sure when designing my box, that the unboxing experience is as sexy as possible.

I wanted my box layout to be as clean as possible and layered. So that each uncovered piece told another story as the user traveled through the experience of unboxing (corporate marketing BS translator: so that the pieces wouldn’t fall out when the box is turned upside down).

What do you think? What is the optimal layout of a board game box?
WonminI want to talk about a very small but very impactful technique I use when shipping out my games.
As you can see, 100+ had the most amount of responses with 25-50 being pretty close. One little caveat of this data is that Twitter didn’t allow me to have more than 4 answers in the poll so some of the 50-100 answers might very well be 100+ answers. But that doesn’t take away from the fact that the majority of people believe that a game should be playtested over a hundred times before being released.

Very interesting indeed!

When I was developing the prototype for my game, I played it well over a hundred times with over 300 unique people. All in the span of the three years that it took to create it. (With a year break in between)

I had to first migrate my website from Github pages to Netlify. Which I highly recommend. Specifically this blog post was extremely helpful. Now I can take advantage of the really flexible Netlify functions to integrate Stripe to this website.

If you have a static website but need just a few functions for various APIs out there, I highly highly suggest migrating to Netlify to take advantage of their functions capability. Not only do I not have to manage all of the backend routing and mumbo-jumbo, I can just keep my existing static Jekyll content and just add on top of it. Amazing.
WonminHello everybody!
Next, the not so good news–

There was a small manufacturing mistake with the cards and we will have to reprint them. My manufacturer has told me that they can get the fixed cards printed by mid July and get them shipped to me via airplane which hopefully means that they will arrive with the rest of the games by end of July.

That said, I will have to manually open all of the shrink wrap plastic packaging and replace the misprinted cards with the new ones for every single game (1000 copies) which might take a long time. I am still hopeful that I can get the games shipped out sometime in August as I originally stated.

Stay safe in the heat out there!
WonminHello backers~ I’ve got some good news and some not so good news. First the good news– All boxes will have silver foil lettering and UV spot printing at no additional cost! You can see it clearly in this unboxing video teaser.
Mass Production

The production of the game is moving along great! My manufacturer told me that the box, the game board, and player boards have already been all printed out—they just need to be cut and folded. Everything else is still on track for a mid to late June finish. So hopefully I’ll receive them by sometime in July.

Tabletop Simulator

Did you know that there is a Tabletop Simulator version of the game available at no extra charge for people who own TTS on Steam? Check out the link here where the game has been updated to the final versions of all assets.

That’s all the updates I have for you today. Thanks again and have a great day!
WonminHello! Happy almost June and I have some good news for everyone!
