Here’s another post on how my board game changed over time. Specifically–how my Office Politics Cards changed.
Office Politics Cards are the bread and butter of the strategic gameplay for my game. You chain multiple cards together to create powerful effects that can change many aspects of the game board.
Carefully strategizing which cards to use and managing your resources carefully is the key to winning.
These cards didn’t used to look like this though. Here’s how they came to look like what they do today.
Here’s a closer look on how my board game changed over time. Or more specifically, how the Project Cards have changed.
Project cards are the basic movement tiles used in my game to build a path around the gameboard. They are placed by players and used to move from one tile to the next using interconnected sticky notes.
But they didn’t used to look like this, nope. They were very very different indeed.
Here’s how they came to look like what they do today.
Is it just me or is there a butt-load of advice/guides on how to make a board game, how to sell your board game, how to pitch your board game, etc. but nobody really talks about the mental / emotional hurdles of making your first board game. Or maybe it’s just hard to find.
With the Kickstarter finally created for my game, I thought it would be a good time to look back at the development process and see exactly how far we’ve come since the notebook brainstorming days. So here’s a blog post detailing the development process from the beginning to now. Hope you enjoy.
The final product picture first.
It was a long journey to get it to look like this and took way longer than I had originally anticipated because life got in the way. I thought it would take about a year, but it was closer to 2.5 years.
There was a bit of a hiccup because I couldn’t find any documentation on whether or not I can edit the campaign details after submitting for review. But it seems like that’s not a problem as you can still edit things post-review. Just a FYI for anyone out there who is in a similar situation.
Now time to start doing some marketing, haha.
If you have any friend or family who might be interested in this game, please please please share with them the Kickstarter link. It really means a lot to me.
